They were the first bank to bring it to Kiwis, and they haven’t looked back. If you’ve got an ANZ Visa credit, Debit card, or ANZ Visa Business Debit card you’re good to go.
Setting it up requires no additional steps or hassles, and you can manage it all through the ANZ GoMoney app, or Apple Wallet. ANZ also offers a 24/7 support for users looking to manage their cards through Apple Pay.
ANZ GoMoney app setup:
- Step 1: Open the goMoney App
- Open the goMoney app on your device. Navigate to “Payments” located at the bottom of the screen, and then select “Apple Pay”.
- Step 2: Choose Your Card(s)
- Pick the card or cards you need on Apple Pay. (You can add more than one of course)
- Step 3: Review and Accept Terms
- Press “Next”, and after reading and agreeing to Terms and Conditions you will be done.
Note, that, for purchases of over NZ$200 you may be requested to enter your PIN number at the terminal. It is a simple security precaution, and we advise you to keep it in mind.
ASB Bank Limited: Bringing Communities Together
This is a very crucial Apple Pay bank to embrace technology, since they provide their services not only in big cities but cater to rural communities and care about native population.
ASB clients can set up Apple Pay with Visa credit and debit cards within minutes through the ASB Mobile App, which automatically and very intuitively guides you through the process or there is always an option to do this through Wallet app.

- Go to ASB Mobile App > “Cards & Devices” ( the main top left hand nav) > choose a card > press “Management” to open Cards control > “Add to Apple wallet” > follow the prompts and agree to Terms & Conditions. And done!
Westpac New Zealand Limited: The Variety Enthusiast
Westpac NZ customers can use Apple Pay with their Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards. Even though the bank has made Apple Pay accessible across various card types, there are a few that are not compatible: Mastercard BusinessCard, Westpac Business Prepaid Mastercard, hotpoints Visa, hotpoints Gold Visa, hotpoints Portfolio Gold Visa, Prepaid and Global Currency cards.
Westpac’s NZ official website offers its clients a detailed guide on how to set up Apple Pay from the Wallet app (standard procedure with the confirmation text from the bank), but they do not show an option for setup from Westpac One Online Banking (although, the situation may change).
Kiwibank: Better Late Than Never
Kiwibank joined the Apple Pay banks NZ bandwagon a bit later than other major banks, well 7 years later, but they offer this option now. Any and all Kiwibank Visa debit and credit cards, including even cards linked to business accounts (which is not always an option), can be used with Apple Pay. A little bit late to the game, but the bank first integrated Apple Pay and Google Pay after.
How to add cards using Kiwibank Mobile App
- Go to the Kiwibank Mobile App > ‘Cards’ menu (at the bottom) > Select a card you’d like to add > Press ‘Add to Apple Wallet’ on the card you have decided on > Follow the instructional prompts to complete.
Repeat steps 2-5 for each card, if there are multiple you want to add.
And there is always an option to just add cards through Wallet, it is your decision which way to go.
Other Financial Institutions Supporting Apple Pay
It is such a crowd pleaser, nowadays it’s not only banks that use Apple Pay, several smaller financial institutions and fintech services available in New Zealand also support it.
American Express New Zealand: 3 Steps, 4 Layers of Security
This one is no brainer, American Express or simply Amex cardholders in New Zealand can link to Apple Pay and enjoy all the usual perks available to them:rewards points and 4 layers of security. The setup is a usual one from the Wallet app or from their own Amex app.
Amex App Set-up
- Step 1: Open the Account Tab
- Get the ‘Account tab’ open (bottom right corner) and select Apple Pay (it will be the first choice).
- Step 2: Select Your Card
- From the list of available cards, choose the one you want to add (multiple cards can be added of course). verify it, and follow the prompts.
- Step 3: Complete Card Verification
- Verify card, and follow the instructional prompts on screen.
Tip! If you want to set it as your default Card, you will have to do that in the Wallet.
BNZ: Business & Pleasure
BNZ is so serious about Apple Pay that their website not only offers the instructions for set-up but also has a PDF downloadable guid. This is the level of commitment we respect.
BNZ supports Apple Pay for both personal and business Visa cards. The service fits a wide range of options, these include:
- BNZ Advantage Visa Classic/Platinum/Business;
- BNZ Flexi Debit Visa & Debit for Business;
- and BNZ Lite Visa.
Customers can set up Apple Pay via the BNZ mobile app or Wallet app, whenever is more convenient.
- BNZ App: Menu icon > Cards > make your selection > Add to Apple Wallet > Next > read the Terms & Conditions > Agree to confirm > Ta-da!
For those who decide to just use the Wallen App on your phone to add a card, note that verification is done in two ways on the banking app, or by phone. If you don’t want to install the BNZ App – call 0800 275 269, and say ‘Apple Pay’ – to complete the process. After verification is complete, Confirm to add your card to Apple Pay.
Revolut
The fintech company Revolut is widely available all over the world, with 100+ countries and regions, also works in New Zealand and supports Apple Pay. Revolut aims to be all in one platform for finances and all money matters from spending to saving, investing and crypto. So it is not surprising that they have Apple Pay.
As with any other, there are two ways to install the Apple Pay for Revolut: the standard one from the Wallet and from their own app. Although the Revolut App will be needed in both cases, since the confirmation for the card will be on the app itself. In-app verification – you open and confirm or an OTP(one time password) sent to the app.
